About Cornerstone

Eyes on the water before the paddle out.

Cornerstone is the home of a surf-focused image-maker. Photography and video, made for surfers who want to feel the sea before they reach it.

Why it exists

The feeling arrives before the wave.

Surfers know the moment before the paddle out: the read of the water, the light on a lifting set, the pull to be in it. Cornerstone exists to put that moment in front of you.

The photographs and films here are made for surfers and the surf world, shown clearly and at generous scale, with nothing standing in the way of the work.

Salt. Speed. Light. Anticipation.

The approach

Four ways of looking at the sea.

  1. Bold, graphical, restrained

Strong frames on a quiet page. Black, white and the colour of the water, so nothing competes with the image.

  2. Ocean first

The sea sets the rhythm. The work follows water, light and movement rather than forcing a scene onto them.

  3. Photography

The photographs are the heart of Cornerstone, and every route on this site leads back to them.

  4. Film

Video carries what a single frame holds back: water and light running through time, made to be felt as you scroll.
